Mushrooms are considered a nutrient dense food which means they have a high nutrient/calorie ratio with a high level of nutrients when compared to their low calorie content.

In fact, without additional ingredients, one serving (5 medium-sized mushrooms) of mushrooms has only about 20 calories, no cholesterol and virtually no fat or sodium. See how the different varieties measure up.
